From the kick-off Minehead’s play belied the pitch conditions that more closely resembled a paddy field rather than a rugby pitch. Seizing the first opportunity of the game Jacques was quick to secure ball and run through the Torrington defence to score the first try of the match and give Minehead a real fillip that this was their game. Minehead continued to hold the initiative from the restart and with increasing confidence were showing good ball handling and distribution working the ball from one side of the pitch to the other. The forwards were competing well at the rucks and mauls providing the backs with quality ball to continually test their opposite numbers on the Torrington side. With Minehead going forward they were awarded a scrum just inside their opponents half. A powerful run from the back of the scrum by No8 Jacques was halted just short of the try line but with Reynolds in close support on the right wing to receive a great offload and dive over the line, Minehead scored their second try. Minehead were dominating now and just before the half time whistle Dunton carried the ball well evading some last ditch tackling to register the final score of the half. The second half saw Torrington strengthened by some loaned Barnstaple players which gave them some added impetus in the first few minutes of the half. It was during this initial period of pressure that Minehead conceded their only points of the match with a converted try.  Minehead were soon continuing where they had left off and with superior ball handling skills opportunities were being created across the pitch. Several Minehead players were having their best performances of the season and it wasn’t long before Minehead had extended their lead again with Dunton crashing over for the final score of the match and a convincing 7-20 scoreline.
