Minehead Barbarians RFC U14’s v Wiveliscombe RFC
Sunday 18 October 2009
A depleted Minehead side due to school commitments and illness, hosted close rivals
Wiveliscombe on Sunday in their second fixture of the season.
With the pre-match preparation disrupted by some last minute team organisation as the
coaches tried to juggle positions it was unsurprising that Minehead got off to a sleepy start
and were soon behind to an early Wiveliscombe try and conversion.
Minehead gradually played their way into the game with the ever alert Charlie Munson on
hand to take full advantage of a Wivey knock-on and show a clean pair of heels to outpace
the defence for a fine solo effort.
It was very much a game of two halves and a well worked try from the hard working Kieran
Wilkins early in the second half bought Minehead ever closer to levelling the match.
As usual in this fixture Minehead finished the stronger side but unfortunately they were
unable to recover the early points deficit as the game finished 22-15 in favour of
Wiveliscombe. Despite the defeat there were plenty of positives to take forward into the next
fixture and with a full squad available the first win of the season is surely just around the
corner.
