evenly into two teams and played alternately. Playing in a round robin pool Minehead lost their first two games against Taunton 15-30 with tries from Lawrence
Sandy, Luke Westcott and Sam Little and Wellington 15-25 Fern Towells , Ethan Carr and Aimee Barnfield scoring.
Having played once each the teams now rose to the challenge at hand and played some impressive rugby with some good driving runs and close support the
hallmark of both teams' performances in beating Chard 30-25 and Warminster 40-30. Tries coming form Ben Rexworthy , Jack Lewis ,Sandy and Carr and against
Chard and Isaac Queenan, Isaac Sweetland, Carr and Towells.
In the final game against Castle Cary both teams played a half each with some rolling substitutions as players were getting tried at the end of along day. Minehead
drew 20-20 with tries from Charlie Disney, Sandy and Little.

tournament play forward to the traditional end of season festivals.
8th January 2012 Minehead U9s vs Wellington U9s
After what seemed like a very long xmas break, Minehead turned up raring to go. The game started with a great attack from Minehead. The possession was very
50/50 and the tackling from both sides was superb. The end to end game meant that the half time score was 0-0.
The second half was much the same as the first and Wellington eventually got the breakthrough with a great team try. Minehead hit back straight away with a great
effort from prop Danilo Sax, running hard and powering over the line. Welling scored again after the back quickly shipped the ball out to the wing and the winger
dived over in the corner. Minehead almost hit back again through Sax but Wellingtons defence was very strong. Final score 5-10
Player of the day went to George Barnfield for his great tackling.
8th January 2012 Minehead V Wellington Under 8's
This was the return fixture of Minehead’s first game of the season and both sides have improved since the start of the season with greater awareness of space and
support play.
The stripes were captained by Sam Little in their first game. Wellington started with the ball and following some excellent passing scored first. Minehead replied
quickly with Lawrence Sandy driving up the pitch, when tagged he passed to Jack Lewis in close support who scored. Amiee Barnfield was then unlucky not to
score when she put her foot into touch just short of the try line. Wellington scored twice before Sam Little added to the try count. Another try followed for Wellington
who were gaining confidence with some strong running. Jack Lewis then made a trademark maizey run and offloaded to Isaac Queenan who broke the defence to
score.
In the second half Minehead found their form. Luke Westcott tagging well along with Harry Reader and Harry Hopkins. Isaac Queenan scored twice as did Ethan
Carr. Minehead were now in ascendance with further tries from Lawrence, Sam and Jack. Wellington scored three times in the second half but Minehead were
deserved winners 55-35points.
Ethan Carr captained the stripes their second game. Over confidence cost them early in the half as Wellington scored quickly and caught them knapping. With
some small mistakes gifting Wellington the ball they managed to score three tries. Ethan Carr scored for Minehead when he spotted space out wide and rounded
the defence to score.
Minehead turned round with a renewed determination. Ethan Carr leading by example, scored when he broke through from a Harry Reader pass. Isaac Queenan
then scored to close the gap. The game was however abandoned as an Air Ambulance landed on the pitch to provide assistance to a player injured in the Under 10
game. The final score was therefore 15-20 to Wellington.
Minehead’s Blues were lead by Isaac Sweetland in their first game. Both teams showed a great tagging ability Fern Towells and Henry Murrell excelling for
Minehead. Wellington scored first, but Minehead replied quickly when a long pass found Ben Rexworthy in space and he sped into the corner to score. Strong runs
from Oliver Bretherton set the tone as both teams tried to find gaps in the opposition defence. Minehead scored a further three tries in the half through Charlie
Disney, Alistair Hilton and Henry Murrell. Wellington however matched their opponents and scored last to lead at half time.
After the break Minehead started well and scored quickly with Charlie Disney supporting a break scoring from short range. Ben Towells ran great lines in attack and
was unlucky not not score. Minehead were now gaining self-belief and scored five more tries in the half, with Wellington scoring four times the honours were even,
50 points all.
In their second game the Blues continued where they left off. Ben Towells leading the tagging count was ably supported by Charlie Disney and Isaac Sweetland.
Wellington started with the ball and scored following some concerted pressure on the Minehead line. Mistakes within sight of the Wellington line prevented
Minehead capitalising only their own pressure and allowed Wellington to score with some good counter attacking runs. Fern Towells managed to score a try for
Minehead before being substituted. Henry Murrell and Oliver Bretherton also scored, as Wellington ended the half two tries in front.
Minehead dug deep in the second half and started to reap the rewards. Alistair Hilton made some telling breaks only to be tagged short of the line. This gave
Minehead much needed momentum with other players in support able to capitalise. Tries from Oliver Bretherton, Henry Murrell and Isaac Sweetland brought
Minehead on level terms as the game was cut short.
Most Improved Player was Isaac Queenan and Player of the Day Henry Murrell.
Minehead Barbarians Under 10 Match report, 11th December 2011, South Molton away
Minehead Under 10's made the long trip to South Molton on a cold and windy Sunday. There was a quick first try by James Hodgkiss after kick off, shortly followed
by a try from the hosts. There was then some good turning and passing between Joel Floyd and Alfie Kelly-Gallagher to allow Floyd to go ahead and score a
second try for Minehead. South Molton then took their second try to even the score. Minehead followed with some excellent mauling to allow Ben Mouzouri to push
forward with another try, putting Minehead 15-10 in front at the end of the first half.
The second half started well with some good tackling by all the Minehead players, South Molton pushed forward to take the first try of the second half to get back on
even terms. This was quickly followed by James Hodgkiss having a good run to score his second try of the game. South Milton scored again to even the game 20-
20. Eddie Howard used his initiative to look for a gap and scored to put Minehead ahead again, this was quickly followed by Samuel Perrone who took his first try of
the game. Minehead had a couple of good runs but initially struggled to get past the South Molton defence, after a scrum Perrone was able to look for the space
and score his second try, taking Minehead to their seventh try of the match, South Molton were quick to respond and tried again, another scrum followed and again
Perrone scored from a scrum to score a hat trick, the game finished with Minehead winning, 40-25.
Minehead Barbarians Under 10 Match report, 4th December 2011, home,, Tiverton RFC 2011
A strong Minehead under 10's team welcomed Tiverton this week and played a very evenly matched game. The first half saw both teams playing good rugby with
excellent handling skills all round and brilliant defensive tackling. The only score of the first half was by Joel Floyd who, after a penalty was awarded near the
Tiverton line didn't hesitate to take the opportunity. The second half however saw the visitors up their game and made several determined runs only to be stopped
short of the line on all occasions. James Hodgkiss set up the next try from the lineout, helping Sam Gorton to drive his way through the Tiverton defence and score
a well-deserved try. Solid scrummaging from the visitors made way for their centre to break through Minehead's defence but Ben Mouzouri was there to make a
text book tackle and keep Minehead's 10 point lead. Quick running by Rob White, Lewis Davis and Ben Lock nearly finished in a try but where just held short by a
strong defence. A final run by the visitors helped by some fantastic passing and ball handling skills saw them over the home team's try line to end the match with
the hosts as 10-5 winners.
Minehead made some changes to the team for the second game. Within minutes Tristan Sandy made a superb try saving tackle in the corner to earn himself 'tackle
of the match'. Tiverton took advantage of some gaps they created in Minehead's defensive line and scored twice within minutes. James Hodgkiss again made a
run up the touch line from a lineout only to be pushed into touch. A third try for Tiverton saw the score 15-0 at half time. Minehead didn't allow Tiverton to play as
they had done in the first half with good tackling from Rob White and Alfie Kelly Gallagher. Byron Sullivan held his scrum together and won plenty of ball for the
backs to use. Finally a loose ball near the try line was picked up by Sam Perrone and he stepped over for Minehead's first and only score of the game. Final score
5-15
Minehead Barbarians Under 9s vs Bridgewater Under 9/10s
In a game that can only be described as 'one for the forwards', Minehead started with the ball and drove the ball into the Bridgey half, but against the run of play 5
yards from the try line a Bridgewater player broke free and ran the length of the pitch to score. Minehead were certainly not depleted by this and piled on the
pressure in the Bridgey half and Chris Barrett broke away to score and tie the scores at half time. The second half saw Minehead set up camp in the Bridgewater
half again, with Ollie Greenway, Lawrence Priest and Rio Howard all going close, but Minehead could break the excellent Bridgewater defence. Mineheads defence
was also to be praised, with Toby How, Alfie Chapman and Hector Hewson all putting in some good tackles. The score ended 5 -5.
Team : T Harris, T How, A Chapman, C Barrett, O Greenway, L Priest, R Howard, H Hewson, J Lintern
Game 2 was mixed with Minehead Under 9s and 10s, Regular under 9s players Sam Miles, George Barnfield, Mikey Brereton, and Will Walsh joined forces with
the under 10's and won in a game that was the complete opposite to the one previous, with 4 first half trys, making the halftime score 10-10. In the second half
Bridgewater took the lead 3 times, only for Minehead to keep bouncing back and with the last play of the game, Minehead scored to win 30-25.
Player of the Day went to Chris Barret for his all-around effort in the first game.
Weston S-Mare U9s Vs Minehead U9s
WSM started the first of two games playing into the wind. Minehead showed their intentions right from the word go with some fierce tackles going in and quickly
turned the ball over through Jack Lintern. The game was very exciting and Minehead were making all the headway and after a knockon WSM played the ball up the
pitch only for Lintern to turn the ball over again and breakway and score. Nearing half time Danilo Sax went close and so did George Barnfield, but Minehead went
in 0-5 up. Early in the second half Minehead looked to have scored an early try but the ball was judged to have been lost forward. Minehead piled on the pressure,
Rio Howard playing his ever energetic game at 9. Minehead were also clinical in defence, Hector Hewson and Mikey Brereton all putting in good hits. Minehead
were eventually rewarded with their second try when hooker Taylor Harris threw to Toby How at the back of the lineout and he powered over to score. Full time
score 0-10.
Game 2 was a much more open game, Oli Greenway scored two very quick trys and WSM replied with a double 10-10. A great run from Danilo Sax gave him try
number 2 for the season and Jack Lintern also added another after supporting a cracking run from Barnfield. Half Time 20-20 Minehead were excellent at the
breakdown, Sam Miles really starting to get into his new position in the forwards, and William Walsh and Lintern excellent around the rucks and the game was a joy
to watch. With Minehead taking firm control of the game they kicked on to win comfortably with Lawry Priest bagging 4 trys and Chris Barret bagging a hat-trick and
WSM added two more to their tally. Final score 30 - 55 to Minehead
Team; C Barrett, O Greenway, T How, R Howard, D Sax, L Priest, W Walsh, S Miles, H Hewson, M Brereton, G Barnfield, T Harris, J Lintern

(2) and Priest (2), there were many positives to come from the game with Minehead starting to react well at the breakdown and Toby How and William Walsh
showing some great tackling.
Team: L Priest, T How, C Barret, G Barnfield, J Lintern, W Walsh.
Team Dave started well against Taunton A, with Oli Greenway ripping the ball from Taunton A and scoring a very quick try, this seemed to spark Taunton into life and
they ran in 2 trys before halftime to make the score 10-5 at the break. Minehead came out with a positive attitude and levelled the score from the restart, Greenway
going over again. Minehead were playing some good rugby, Danilo Sax crashing the ball up and the ever energetic Alfie Chapman doing his best to support his
team mates but Taunton A went on to score 4 more tries to win the game 30-10. Team Dave then played Taunton B, Taylor Harris moved into the scrum and Rio
Howard moved into the backs. Taunton scored first, but Minehead were quick to reply through Alfie Chapman to level the score. Greenway went over before the end
of the half to send Minehead in at half time with their noses in front 5-10. The second half saw Greenway add another 3 trys to his name with, the best coming from

Team: T Harris, R Howard, O Greenway, A Chapman, S Harris, D Sax
Player of the Day went to Toby How for his ferocious tackling and all round work rate.
6/11/11 Under 10's travelled to Burnham on Sea on Sunday and returned with two match
victories.
Tackles from Minehead straight from the start combined with their strong driving and continual attacks set the scene for the day, and made Burnham lose ground as
Minehead forged forwards. Sam Huish rewarded the team with the first try of the day. Burnham took up the restart and a swift run from their wing made the score
level. Both teams suffered from loose balls, Joel Floyd picking up one to quickly put Minehead ahead once more.
Excellent passing down the back line saw the ball flow from Tristan Sandy to Alfie Kelly-Gallagher to Byron Sullivan and back to Tristan Sandy who finished the
move to nail his first, and Minehead's 3rd try. Sandy's determined presence found him able to scoop up another loose ball, followed by his determined straight run
to find the try line within minutes of his last.
Forceful driving by the team in the second half and a quick break from Sam Huish saw another smooth pass to Ben Mouzouri and on to Kelly-Gallagher who was
caught on the line by Burnham, but his quick twist as he flexed his way through the tackle was enough to place the ball sweetly over the line.
Another smooth set of passes down the line from Floyd to Sandy to Huish saw Minehead make ground and more fluid passing enabled Floyd to register another try
for the team. Minehead seized possession from the restart and ran on as a team before Floyd's pirouette saw the ball placed firmly down for yet another try.
Newcomer James Hodgkiss excelled as a driving force through Burnham's defence and was within touching distance before Burnham finally held him firm; a quick
pass found Floyd, well placed to take the ball safely down once again. Near the whistle and Kelly-Gallagher still had life in his legs to break free and make a superb
run for freedom to score and leave the result as 45 to 10.
Match Two saw a changed team for Minehead, while Burnham fielded Byron Sullivan as their hooker. Excellent tackles from Kelly-Gallagher and Finnley Hall found
space for Rob White to seize and charge forward, passing on to Kelly-Gallagher, to Hall to Ben Lock and finally to Lewis Davis with a good pick up, but who was
foiled near the line. Further work and Sam Gorton found possession to drop down over the line for Minehead's first try.
Secure passing down the back line again, and excellent catching found Minehead once again near their try line for Sam Perrone to ease casually over to score his
first of the day. Burnham continued to fight with spirit but Minehead's passing was brilliant as Eddie Howard found Hall who with a quick manoeuvre eased it
through Burnham's defence for a sound try. Though Burnham found room for breaks Minehead foiled every attempt for them to gain ground, a fantastic series of
passes once again ending this time with Sam Gorton to ground the ball beautifully.
After the break Hodgkiss was placed in as hooker to create a solid wall of defence. His solo drive forward gained valuable room for the team as Hall, with Burnham
as burrs on his legs, pushed on to eventually break free to take the ball clean over the line.
Lock's unfailing tackling brought Minehead valuable possession once again and Davis found room to sprint over half the field before being pushed into touch. The
gain was not lost as Sam Perrone scored yet again for an unflagging Minehead side. Substitutions for Minehead enabled possession over and over; Floyd placed a
sweet one-step try after an excellent line movement from the team. Minutes again before the whistle Minehead's solid team foiled Burnham to allow Perrone room
to score yet again, the result 40 to 0
The Coach passed his thanks to Bryon for acting as Burnham's hooker in the first half of the second match, and congratulated the whole team for their dominance
throughout.
Tackle of the match - Finnley Hall.

Minehead Barbarians Under 8 v Taunton Under 8
Minehead travelled to Taunton for their second game of season after missing out on a home clash against Barnstaple the previous week. Taunton fielded three
teams against Minehead's two, all of which where well drilled and had trained prior to the matches commencing.
Minehead's blue team where captained by Sam Little in their first game. Taunton scored first with Minehead sluggish from the journey. Great tagging from Oliver
Bretherton and tries from Alistair Hilton and Sam Little could not redress the balance, Taunton running out winners 35 to 10 points.
In their second game the blues now captained by Lawrence Sandy, seemed shell shocked by their loss in the first game. Erin Treadaway working tirelessly in
defence and Ben Towells always in support of the ball carrier, Minehead eventually lost 30 points to 10. Try scorers Sam Little and Alistair Hilton.
Jack Lewis captained the blues in their third game. Oliver Bretherton made some good runs and the team worked well together in defence. Tries by Alistair Hilton,
Sam Little and Oliver Bretherton could not prevent Taunton winning 40 points to 25.
Minehead's green's faced a strong running Taunton team in their first game. However they were a match for their opposition with some good tagging by Charlie
Disney and Ethan Carr. Taunton scored first and kept their lead until the final whistle when they scored again winning by 40 points to 30. Try scorers, Ethan Carr,
Isaac Sweetland, Ben Rexworthy and Aimee Barnfield.
In their second game Minehead were gaining confidence with some good attacking movement by Isaac Sweetland and great support from Aimee Barnfield. Taunton
lead from the start and finished 30 points to 25 winners. Minehead scorers Ethan Carr and Aimee Barnfield.
The last game found all Minehead's players running straight and looking for gaps in attack with Charlie Disney and Ben Rexworthy making some telling breaks and
Luke Westcott always in support. Ethan Carr with some inspired tagging in defence snuffed out some of Taunton's attacks. The game saw Taunton and Minehead
evenly matched and finished in a draw 25 to 25 points. Tries scored by Ethan Carr, Aimee Barnfield, Charlie Disney and Luke Westcott.
Although unable to win a game everyone enjoyed the challenge and thanked their hosts for a good natured contest. Minehead's most improved player was Oliver
Bretherton and player of the day was Aimee Barnfield.
U10’s Minehead Barbarians Under 10 Match report, 23rd October, 2011; away at Taunton
Having arrived promptly for plenty of warm-up time, Minehead played a competitive match against the Taunton "A" squad. A quick opening try from Taunton was
enough to galvanise Minehead, and once they got the ball moving quickly through their hands were able to draw level with a deserved try for Alfie Kelly-Gallagher
who had played inspirationally from hooker. Once again, it was Taunton's handling skills that were to prove to be decisive, with two more tries being run in despite
solid tackles from Edward Howard, Robert White and Ben Mouzouri. The second half was very closely-contested, with neither side willing to give ground, with yet
again Howard working at the core of the defence, this time assisted by Sam Huish. A single score for Taunton was sufficient to see them safely win 20-5.
Match Two saw wholesale changes on both sides, in what proved to be a very even and well-played game. Newcomer Lewis Davis made a superb run down the
wing to score his first try for the club on his second appearance to put Minehead in the lead. A quick reply from Taunton with a brilliant diving try through a ruck
which was worthy of the TV highlights brought the scores level. Minehead then enjoyed a period of dominance, with passes finding their mark, and yet more crucial
tackles from Howard making space for Ben Lock to cross for the lead, quickly followed by great runs from Sam Gorton who scored two tries to give a comfortable
lead at the break. Substitutions on both sides saw yet more closely-contested set pieces, with Taunton winning possession in both the scrums, and line outs. Byron
Sullivan made a crunching tackle in the midfield which made space for Robert White to show a clean air of heels and score a well-deserved try to extend the lead,
only for Taunton to step up a gear, and start running all round the park, and cross the line four times to come back for a well-earned draw 25-25.
Team: Sam Perrone, Joel Floyd, Sam Huish, Tristan Sandy, Ben Mouzouri, Toby Tisshaw, Finnley Hall, Alfie Kelly-Gallagher, Ben Lock, Rob White, Byron Sullivan,
Edward Howard, Jack Diplock, David Morris, Sam Gorton, Lewis Davis.

U9s - Minehead Barbarians vs Barnstaple
Barnstaple won the coin toss to get the first of two games underway and started very strongly driving the ball deep into the Minehead half, but after some great
defence Minehead forced them into touch and from the resulting lineout Oli Greenway went on to score. Mineheads Rio Howard, Sam Harris and Danilo Sax
showed some great support play and were almost rewarded with a second try only for Lawrence Priest to be pushed into touch. HT 5-0 Minehead started the
second half strongly with Alfie Chapman making some great runs, and eventually Chris Barrett went over to score and make it 10-0. Mineheads great defence was
rewarded after quick thinking Toby Howe arrived first at a ruck, stole the ball and ran on to score. 15-0 Barnstaple seemed more determined at the restart and were
rewarded with a great team try, the ball was mauled deep into mineheads half, the ball was recycled to the backs and they found acres of space to go on and score.
Final scrore 15-5
In game 2, Minehead had a complete change of team positions with Jack Lintern going to fly half, Taylor Harris, William Walsh and Sam Miles also going into the
back line and George Barnfield having a run with the forwards. The first half saw a great break from Oli Greenway after ripping the ball from Barnstaple only to be
tackled short of the line but a great offload to Lawrence Priest saw him score for Minehead. Barnstaple then scored two very quick trys, one was a very powerful run
from the restart and one was a breakaway from their own half. HT 5-10 The second half saw Minehead tiring a little but the ever energetic Alfie Chapman was
leading the way with some good tackling and in the move of the match Barnstaple mauled the ball from their own lineout to score a great try. 5-15 Minehead hit
back very quickly with a try from Chris Barrett but it was a mere consolation as Barnstaple held on for the win. Final score 10-15

Minehead Barbarians Under 10 Match report, 16th October 2011; home v Barnstaple
Yet more Spring-like weather saw Minehead host Barnstaple in two fiercely-contested matches. Strong running from the visitors in Match One saw them control the
early play, and with added dominance in the scrum they were soon two tries to the better. A penalty for repeated high tackles was quickly taken by Toby Tisshaw
and he crossed to close the gap at the break. The second half saw similar patterns of play with Barnstaple strong in all areas of the game, but somehow held to just
a single extra try. A further dangerously high tackle saw a penalty try awarded, and with time running out, attacks from Alfie Kelly-Gallagher, Robert White and Ben
Lock saw play spread wide, with Ben Mouzouri managing a strong run to shrug off three tacklers, and score in the corner for a well-deserved equalizer. Final score
15-15.
Match Two was an equally physical challenge, with both sides making more breaks and testing each other's defensive skills. Scrummaging was better contested,
with David Morris, Finnley Hall and Byron Sullivan at the front line. Edward Howard, Mouzouri, and Joel Floyd battled constantly in the midfield. Second half tries
from Huish and Floyd kept the hosts on level pegging; but then a string of textbook round- the-legs tackles saw Tristan Sandy foil two attacks almost single-
handedly, and earn himself this week's Tackle-of-the-match award, and also prevent a certain Barnstaple try. Quick runs from the resulting scrum saw Mouzouri
break through to score the winner in a hard-fought last-gasp win, 15-10.
Team: Sam Perrone, Joel Floyd, Sam Huish, Tristan Sandy, Ben Mouzouri, Toby Tisshaw, Finnley Hall, Alfie Kelly-Gallagher, Ben Lock, Rob White, Byron Sullivan,
Edward Howard, Lewis Daniels, David Morris, Sam Gorton.
Tackle-of-the-Match; Tristan Sandy.
U13s - Minehead Barbarians vs Brigdwater
Minehead Barbarians under 13 hosted Bridgwater at home, with a 15-0 win to Bridgwater, Bridgwater scored their first try in the first half due to some powerful play
from their flanker and number eight and became more confident but Minehead put it some good tackles and held them off from scoring any more tries in the first
half, the whole team were keen to get their first try and put in some fantastic runs but sadly passes of the ball to fellow players missed their mark and were unable to
get their first try in the first half. Minehead won most of the scrums with some strong play from the forwards and they were going up hill.
In the second half Minehead came back very strong with Dan Bolton putting in fantastic runs and tackles and with Bridgwater unable to bring him to the ground and
he made some great ground but sadly without support the effort went unnoticed. Luke Fieldhouse playing at 8 put in some great runs from Minehead's own 22 to
gain ground for Minehead but again with the back row unsettled and silly mistakes being made in the tackle allowed Bridgwater to score and another in the last
closing minutes to score another try, Luckily for Minehead, Bridgwater were unable to convert, again as always with Minehead the whole team put in a fantastic
effort showing great technical ability at times for the game, but with aggression missing, the game was given away when it came to first up tackles this is something
for the coaches to take back to the drawing board before this Sundays game against Tiverton.
Man of the match went to Conner Bazley for his fantastic effort and determination throughout the whole game and his ability to pick the loose ball and create good
open ball play.
Under 13's Away this Sunday 23rd to Tiverton Kick Off 11.00
U10s - MBRFC v Wellington
The sunniest day of October greeted the teams as Wellington hosted Minehead in the usual opening fixture of the season. In blistering heat Match One saw a
closely-fought first half with both sides testing out their newly-learned skills. A try-saving tackle from Robert White kept the scores level at the break. The second
half saw Wellington run with more freedom, and score three quick tries. The hosts' strong rucking in defence kept Jack Diplock, Joel Floyd and Ben Lock out on
several occasions, with only Toby Tisshaw able to make a break and close the gap. Final score 15-5 to Wellington.
With the heat and firm ground taking its toll on the squad, Match Two saw two almost completely-changed teams take the field. Such was the change that
Wellington's forwards dominated the set-piece scrums, and loose play. With almost total possession, they were able to maximise their advantage, and ran in 5
unopposed tries. The second half was closer, with Minehead finally moving the ball out wide to wings Tristan Sandy and Alfie Kelly-Gallagher and avoiding ruck
situations. Two hard tackles, and a strong run through the defence saw Sam Gorton pull one back for Minehead.
A quick try in response saw the gap remain at 25 points. Sam Huish was unlucky not to score his first of the season when held up by three Wellington players just
short of their line, and despite a Ben Mouzouri score in the corner, the hosts closed the match 30-10 comfortably.
Team: Sam Perrone, Joel Floyd, Sam Huish, Tristan Sandy, Ben Mouzouri, Toby Tisshaw, Finnley Hall, Alfie Kelly-Gallagher, Ben Lock, Rob White, Byron Sullivan,
Edward Howard, Jack Diplock, David Morris, Sam Gorton.
Tackle-of-the-Match; Sam Gorton

U8s - MBRFC v Wellington
TMinehead under 8's travelled to Wellington for their first game of season on a hot Sunday morning. Players and supporters outnumbered their hosts and made it
feel more like a home fixture, in which some of our newer players thrived. Minehead split into two teams and played round-robin games.
The first game was against each other and allowed each team to practice their attacking and defensive techniques. Alistair Hilton scored first which was quickly
cancelled out by a try from Ethan Carr. Both teams were evenly matched and the game ebbed and flowed with the 4-4 result being a fair reflection. Try scorers Amie
Barnfield, Alistair Hilton Charlie Disney, Lawrence Sandy and Ethan Carr.
Minehead then played their hosts two teams alternately.
The blue team ably lead by Jack Lewis had a convincing win 8-5 in their first game. With some good tagging by Isaac Sweetland and Fern Towells, also some
strong running from Charlie Disney. Try scorers Jack Lewis, Isaac Sweetland, Fern Towells, Ethan Carr and Lawrence Sandy. In their third game the blue's where
buoyed with some good defensive tagging by Erin Treadaway and lead at half time. However Wellington came back strongly to secure a 7-7 draw. Try scorers Jack
Lewis, Charlie Disney, Lawrence Sandy and Ben Towells.
Minehead's green team lead by Alistair Hilton in their second match, had the majority of possession with minor errors preventing them scoring more tries and they
were matched by a confident Wellington side with some strong runners. Good defence from Finley Foreman and Sam Little with the ever present Aimee Barnfield
lead to the result always being in doubt until the final whistle, a 7-7 draw. Mineheads scorers Oliver Bretherton, Aimee Barnfield, Finley Foreman and Tom Barber.
The greens last game saw some of our newer players gaining confidence with Ben Rexworthy and Harrison Willis making some telling breaks, also some good
support running from Tom Barber and Luke Westscott. However three Tries from Henry Murrell could not prevent a 4-3 win for Wellington.
Player of the Day went to Ethan Carr for his strong running and support play, most Improved Player went to Ben Rexworthy on his debut.
The players can take alot of positives into next weeks training and look forward to a fun filled season.
U9s - MBRFC v Wellington
After four weeks of training, Minehead U9's played their first full contact game of the season. Wellington won the toss and decided to play down the hill in the first
half, Alfie Chapman set the standard of tackling with some great early hits, but using the hill to their advantage, Wellington scored two very quick trys to make the
score 10-0. From the restart Minehead knocked on and found themselves on the defensive, Wellington broke away but with good tackling from Chris Barret and
Oliver Greenway Wellington were forced to knock on. Minehead then put together their best passage of play to make some ground on the unforgiving slope, with
some great support play from Toby Howe, only for Wellington to quickly turn the ball over and score a breakaway try. From the restart Minehead knocked the ball
on and from the resulting scrum Wellington made it 20-0 at halftime.
The second half saw Minehead use the slope to their advantage and penned Wellington inside their own half for the majority of the half. Minehead were almost
rewarded for their hard work when Lawrence Priest was brought down just short of the line. With Mineheads attack growing in confidence after some runs from Rio
Howard, George Barnfield and Hector Hewson , they were rewarded with a hard earned try, after some good tackles from Danilo Sax, Captain Oliver Greenway
and William Walsh, they forced Wellington into touch 10 metres from their own try line, form the resulting lineout, Chris Barret went on to score.
Final Score 20-5 to Wellington
Game 2
Minehead won the toss and decided to play down the hill in the first half, this payed instant dividends after a great run from Chris Barret saw him tackled short of the
line only to pick out Oliver Greenway in support for him to score, 0-5. The next passage of play saw a good double tackle from Chris Barret and Taylor Harris to
prevent a score, only for Wellington find a gap and go on to score after some more great defensive work from Minehead.5-5 From the restart William Walsh made a
blinding run only to be held up short and Rio Howard picked the ball up and dived over to score. 5-10. Some good tackling from the restart from Jack Lintern, Hector
Hewson and Danilo Sax saw Minehead force a knock on and from the resulting scrum Rio Howard made a great solo effort down the blindside to score in the
corner. 5-15. Wellington hit back with one more try before the break and a great try saving tackle from Wellington saw William Walsh bundled into touch denying
Minehead of 4th try. 10-15 halftime Oliver Greenway made way for George Barnfield after taking a slight knock.
After the restart Minehead were really working well as a team, Wellington were awarded a scrum after a Minehead knock on and broke away to score and tie the
scores at 15-15. Minehead were still putting in some great work with Alfie Chapman putting in a good shift, and after tackles from Danilo Sax and Lawrence Priest,
the slope was proving tough for Minehead to cope with again and Wellington took the score to 20-15. From a ruck Minehead had to make a blood replacement,
replacing George Barnfield with Oliver Greenway who was keen to come back on, he then set up Lawerence Priest to score in the corner earning Minehead a well-
deserved draw.
Man of the Match for the day was Danilo Sax for his constant tackling around the park.
Team , C Barret, O Greenway, T Howe, G Barnfield, L Priest , W Walsh, A Chapman, J Lintern, R Howard, T Harris, S Miles, D Sax and H Hewson

The Committee of the Minehead Barbarians RFC is committed to providing the facility for all young people to learn about and play the game of Rugby. This commitment has
been in place for many years now and the Club is currently reaping the benefits of it, with many of the players in the senior teams having come up through the Mini and Junior
Section.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Last season we only had one web page for our Minis and Junior Section with only a few match reports from U14s & U15s
We would love for each team to have their own page with news, fixtures, reports, coaches profiles, events, contacts, photos.
We really do want to promote the section better in the future and hope that you can send in updates to keep it fresh for every team.
Feel free to drop me an email (scott@discoverwebsites.co.uk) if you are interested in supplying content and we can start to build new pages for
the Minis and Juniors teams that want one. Thank you.
What is Seal of Approval?
The RFU introduced the Mini and Youth Seal of Approval accreditation programme in 2002 as a method of examining, maintaining and
improving the provision of rugby in the mini and youth section of a rugby club.
Building upon current good practice, the accreditation aims to recognise the effort and achievement of those clubs that reach, maintain and
improve on the required standard of a club committed to the provision of quality rugby union experiences for young players.
