Minehead Barbarians colts 46 Chard colts 0
The pleasure of a second successive big home win, by the Barbarians colts was only marred
by the injury to forward Josh Parker. Josh suffered a broken ankle in a tackle and we all hope
for his speedy recovery.
Playing up the college slope in the first half, Minehead made the perfect start, Lynch picked
up at the first scrum and barged through a couple of tackle before slipping the ball to
Claydon who chipped ahead. Scott Langdon won the race to score, Dyer converted.
While Chard had the advantage of the slope, the pace and enthusiasm of the home defence
was noticeable, often tackling the visitors
behind the advantage line. Minehead
scored again before the half time break
with a text book line-out catch and
drive, Claydon at scrum half joined the
maul to score.
The big positives on view in the first half
were the aggressive tackling, and the
willingness to run the ball at all
opportunities, sometimes when perhaps
there were wiser options! In addition
there were signs that the midfield of
Pound, Grove and Mallinson may be
able to develop into a slick unit. Swan
and Langdon dominated the loose play.
Swan wining numerous turnovers, and
Langdon harassing the visitor’s ball.
Josh Parker’s injury on the stroke of half-time, and the use of many replacement players
could have disrupted the Barbarians badly, but instead they went from strength to strength.
First a powerful burst by Mallinson sent Dyer over for a converted try, then Lynch powered in
to score.
Dyer crossed for his second score, then Coleman barged his way through after some elusive
running by Hurley.
The final points came from tries by Jack Langdon, and Claydon, whose converted score
rounded off a good performance by Minehead.
While there is no shortage of enthusiasm, the team do need to add a little more discipline to
their game if this success is to be built on and improved.
Man of the match performances were shared between Jamie Swan and Max Mallinson.
