Following a 52 -7 win over Taunton the previous Saturday, the players’ confidence was high for the fixture and there were again plenty of players to choose from. Tor fielded a young side, and looked to play a fast open game in the first ten minutes but the Barbarians defence was well organised and put pressure on the away side which forced mistakes. At the set piece the Barbarians excelled, winning all of their lineout ball and retaining possession at the scrums.  During their first set play following a lineout outside the 22, the ball was passed out wide to centre and captain Rob Trapnell who chose a great line to run in under the posts unopposed.  The conversion was also added by Trapnell. With an early score under their belts Minehead continued to be ruthless, hunting for the ball at the breakdown and leaving the visitors with little option on the ball. A second try soon followed after a good period of possession from the Minehead forwards with trademark runs from props Elliott Davis and Chris Ware giving Minehead the edge. Number 8 David Harris took a short pass from the Scrum half 10 metres out and showed shear strength to carry three defenders over the line and score his first of three tries for the afternoon. The conversion was again added by Trapnell. By the end of the first quarter Minehead were truly in control and playing all of their rugby in the opposition 22. Minehead played well to the referee and reacted quickly when awarded an advantage. The third try came from Flanker Justin Harris who took a quick tap 5 metres out, awarded for failing to roll away at the ruck. Harris managed to wriggle his way over the line to bring the score to 19-0 and allow another easy shot at goal for Trapnell. With less than 10 minutes to go of the first half, Minehead continued to work well at the break down. Matt Grove at scrum half chose direct running lines and offloaded to supporting forwards. Scott Huish made a quick 20 yards down the blind side just before the break only to be tackled by the last man, but offloaded to Ware in support who crashed over in the corner. The subsequent conversion was missed. The visitors were to score the final points of the first half with a breakaway try against the run of play. A midfield handling error by the Barbarians gave the Tor winger a chance to chip through and then dribble the ball to the line and beat the home fullback to score a try. The conversion was missed. Half Time score 24-5. The second half saw several changes for the Barbarians, and fresh legs made the game faster but strewn with errors. The visitors seemed resigned to defeat and slipped off the tackles with David Farmer, Jake Pound and Ashley Ahmet continuing to probe the back line and get over the advantage line. Gaps appeared all over the park and David Harris added a further two tries to his first, with good supporting play, and Captain Rob Trapnell added a further two tries to give him his hat trick. Three conversions were added and Minehead picked up the bonus point win for the second week running. Man of the match was awarded to Chris Ware for his all round play.  10/09/11 - Minehead Barbarians II 52 - 5 Tor II Kit 28 / 01 / 12     Martock / Away  Meet     11.45am  at Club  Squad From If unavailable please call Andrew on  07917 632234 M.Cherry P.Hensons D.Farmer S.Huish J.Barrett D.Harris D.Brereton H.Bretherton R.Dellow A.Eastaugh R.Griffiths J.White A.Duke J.Pound M.Holman T.Ninnis Z.Mayo B.Parson Minehead Barbarians II Xv notched up their 7th league win of the season with a 7 try bonus point win at home over local rivals Bridgwater III. After an impressive win last sat away to Ivel Barbarians II, Minehead came onto the field with aggression and determination to impress the home supporters. Within minutes of the kick off, Minehead had completed several phases of play by the Minehead pack to enable Olly Dyer to run in an impressive try under the posts for David Farmer to easily convert.  Straight from the restart Minehead looked to attack with Ricky Griffiths receiving the high ball comfortably and taking it up into the Bridgwater pack, quick recycled ball enabled Scott Huish to pass the ball out from the ruck for Hal Bretherton to kick into the opposition half for Olly Dyer to collect and run in his second try of the game. The pace of the game did not let up with excellent phases of play by both forward and backs, Olly dyer made a break through the Bridgwater defence, with excellent supporting play by Minehead’s forwards to secure the ball,  quick ball and a disorganised Bridgwater defence enabled Joe Barrett to break through to score Minehead’s third try of the game. Yet again a solid performance by Ricky Griffiths receiving the restart ball, running at pace at the Bridgwater pack the ruck secured quickly giving the Minehead backs a solid platform to work from, David Farmer spotted space behind the Bridgwater defence, kicked long down field, Farmer chased and collected his own ball off loaded to Zac Mayo to score under the posts for Minehead’s fourth try of the game. Farmer easily converted to bring the score to 24-0 after 30 minutes of the first half. Bridgwater came back strongly with an impressive period of play, where it looked like the home team had taken their foot of the pedal; Bridgwater came close to crossing the white wash for their 1st try only stopped by an impressive Minehead defence. Minehead were able to clear the ball into touch, stolen lineout by Scott Huish put Minehead on the front foot, due to injury to Daniel Richardson in the backs meant a forced change bringing Hal Bretherton back into his usual 12 position. Bretherton made an immediate impact with his usual strong running breaking through the Bridgwater defence to score under the posts for Minehead’s fifth try enabling Olly Dyer to easily convert. The second half saw the visiting side up their game, with impressive set piece play and attacking phases enabling them to cross the line for their first converted try of the game. Minehead immediately responded by a steady attack by the forwards to get into the opposition half, with strong powerful running by Martin Cherry and Ryan Dellow supported by the rest of the pack, enabling Matt Groves to give the backs clean ball and Jake Pound to cross the line for Minehead’s sixth try and Olly Dyer converting. Bridgwater never looked like giving up for one moment, with strong running, several phases of play and some very sloppy Minehead tackling gifted Bridgwater their second try bringing the score to 36-12 with 5 minutes remaining. With the seconds ticking away Minehead played one last attack on the visiting side, yet again Rick Griffiths collected the high ball and set up a secure ruck for the backs to run. Several phases of play by both backs and forwards saw Ricky Griffiths breaking through the Bridgwater defence to score Minehead’s seventh try to bring the final score to 41 – 12. 10/12/11 - Minehead Barbarians 41 - 12 Bridwater & Albion III
